Is it like this everywhere? Is anyone out there hoping to become a teacher? Before you make a decision, let me share with you a small piece of information about Florida’s health insurance benefits for teachers. I would scan in the chart for you, but I burned it in disgust, without even an accelerant. My scorn make the paper burst into flame.
OK. My husband pays monthly premiums of about 160.00.
If we were to add his spouse to the plan we’d pay monthly around 600.00
If we were to add 2 children to the plan plus me, the premium would be 1117.00 a month.
Wait. Let me just remind you that this month alone, we’ve paid over 200.00 in co-pays for my husband’s twice-weekly follow up appointments with the ENT after his sinus surgery. 10 minutes per appointment, 45.00 a pop. He’ll be seeing the man twice a week for six weeks.
Can I just direct your attention upward for a moment? 1117.00 a month:
is more than our mortgage
is almost half of our monthly income
does not include $25 co-pay for every doctor visit EXCEPT the special ones, the 10 minute ones with the specialist. Those are $45. Need a prescription? That’ll be $15, or $40 if your doctor wants you on the good stuff.
Folks? A teacher had to teach the CEO of Exxon, who showed record breaking profits again last quarter, how to read. While this guy is enjoying private planes and shopping for whatever he wants at the grocery store, the teachers that care for his children all day long are eating shit food and buying their drugs from mexico because they can’t afford to go to the fucking doctor.
What.
The.
FUCK.
is wrong with this country.
