Avery was playing outside and there is a sidwalk across the yard. I can’t wait till we have no sidewalk. it’s a half million degrees here so she’s bare feet and legged. Skins her knees, bloody and opened up some scabs from last week’s fall. I told dh to get the “stop pain” spray from the medicine chest.

We sprayed her knees. 15 minutes later she takes the end of her big toe off somehow. (Don’t ask me. I was there, I swear. Watching every second of it. She has a gift for injury.) I spray her again, and she screams and keeps screaming. “That one’ll burn for a few minutes, since it’s deep”, my dad remarks. Finally I look at the spray to see how strong the lidocane or whatever the active ingredient is.

It’s menthol. The spray is for muscle aches and arthritis pain.
It has menthol. peppermint oil. citric acid.

holy shit. My dad is getting his super duper lidocaine to put on there while he butterflies it together and bandages her up.

meanwhile, I’m so glad I’m leaving town tomorrow and I hope at the Doula training there is a segment on How Not to Cause Pain to an Already Hurting 2 Year Old.
